Why I Built Dinner Found

The story behind Dinner Found.

I work in healthcare, so my schedule can be busy and exhausting. My husband is an executive chef for a catering company, and his schedule is just as hectic. He loves to cook. I don't particularly love cooking. But after a long day, neither of us wants to use what's left of our brain power figuring out what we're going to make for dinner.

Then there's our toddler.

He still needs to eat, even when we're exhausted.

We live in a small community where our takeout options are pretty limited unless we're looking for fast food or fried chicken. For more choices, we'd have to drive at least 30 minutes — and after a long workday, neither of us wants to make another trip.

Cooking is a big part of our lives simply because it's often the best option.

At the same time, our toddler has had dietary needs we've had to work around, including a dairy sensitivity that he's gradually growing out of. Finding something the whole family would eat — and that wouldn't upset his stomach — added another layer to the nightly dinner decision.

And there we were, night after night, staring into the refrigerator and pantry thinking:

"What are we going to eat?"

We had food. We had ingredients. We just didn't have an answer.

Sometimes we'd eventually give up and order takeout.

And then there was the other problem.

By the time we finally got around to using some of the groceries we'd bought, they would sometimes go bad. We'd throw away food we'd spent money on, then go buy more groceries — only to find ourselves right back in the same situation the next week.

It became a cycle

I wanted to break that cycle.

I wanted something that could look at what we already had, remember who we were feeding and what they liked or couldn't eat, and help us actually find dinner.

  • Not another recipe to scroll through.
  • Not another grocery list.

Just an answer to:

What's for dinner?

Found.

Less planning. Less waste. Less $.
